Tennis Angela Dalinger’s paintings have a whimsical lightness to them. They tread the terrain of naïve art while simultaneously displaying a solid sense of composition and form. In another interview of hers online, aws well as in our correspondence back and forth, she has emphasized her obsessive approach to painting— her routine is to paint daily from sunup to sundown. This behavior relates to other artists considered of the “naïve” or “outsider” camps, as does her struggle with depression. Kris Tate creates vibrant, psychedelic, geometric illustrations based on subject matter ranging from indie culture figures to forest animals. Kristy Lynn creates luscious paintings and delicate drawings inspired by nature and dreams. The two artists connected via the artist site Society6, and after becoming friends and supporters of one another’s work, Tate asked Lynn if she would like to collaborate on a piece, to which the answer was naturally, yes. Araxie’s body of work questions the boundaries of reality, exploring notions of space, the surreal and the potential of the found image, evoking a sense of disquiet and nostalgia. After studying painting at Wimbledon College of Art, Araxie’s first commission took her to Armenia. Inspired by her experience as the Costume and Set Designer of ‘Sayat Nova’ opera in Yerevan, her work has been influenced by the functions of the stage and the contrived environment that it creates, as well as the visual signature of Eastern European theatrical folk characters and traditional costumes. Born in 1962 in Benin, West Africa, Romuald Hazoumè, is considered one of Africa’s leading visual artists. A winner of the prestigious 2007 Arnold-Bode-Prize at Documenta 12 in Germany, Hazoumè first came to the attention of the wider art world in 1992, when his politically astute works were first exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery’s “Out of Africa” show. Already a full-time artist by then, Hazoumè’s works have since been shown in major museums and galleries all over the world and has works in the collections of the likes of David Bowie and Iman.
