Metamorphosis by Asher Jay
Metamorphosis: – an original literary work by ©Asher Jay 2013 I have been the wild horse that could not be tamed, the unpredictable storm, the loose cannon, the changing wind, the winding ocean current the meandering river, the vagrant cloud and I have always found the other to be a shackle This maybe why I have never been the sails of a sturdy oak ship never the salt by the pepper shaker the oars to a hand carved canoe, the ornate brass legs to a rosewood table nor the buttons of a bespoke shirt something in you has left me feeling more button than horse, more salt than storm more…

My Chronic Condition by Asher Jay
This original artwork was created using scans of napkins that were stained with paint from cleaning brushes that were used to render other canvases in progress. To me it represents both process and the pulse of the remainder from an equation, much like love. So I wound up writing a little poem about the feeling that fueled the piece: My Chronic Condition: Asher Jay Cannot function when you are near You’re in all I do and say, it’s clear I am wrapped around your little finger, Thoughts of you do make me linger. Every word you utter a cerebral kiss Your eyes spin my world off axis When you smile…

Q & A with Artist Asher Jay: The Maui Dolphin: A Survival Plea for a Sentient Species
55 and Counting by ©Asher Jay 2012, an original work created to raise awareness about the dwindling count of Maui Dolphins in New Zealand’s waters. www.asherjay.com William Trubridge, a World Champion Free Diver, is the ambassador for the smallest and rarest cetacean species, the Cephalorhynchus hectori maui. He is presently spearheading a strong campaign against negligent fishing practices with high by-catch mortality rates. Trawling and gill nets have brought Maui Dolphin numbers from 111 in 2005 to an alarmingly meager population of 55 in 2012. With only 20 females left in the wild, it has become apparent that drastic measures need to be instituted to save this sentient species from…

‘All the Pieces matter’, Garbagea’s place in the Blue Marble – An Interview with Asher Jay
http://www.garbagea.com/ As 2011 draws to a close, and the final year of the Mayan Calendar approaches (read into that what you will) what will our motto of the year be? What have we gleaned from events such as the Arab Spring; the Japanese Tsunami; The ‘Occupy’ Movements; the Eurozone crisis; riots in London and other UK cities; The Last Harry Potter Movie (shock horror) and an ever deepening economic and ecological crisis? How we interpret these events, and the course of action we choose to take over the coming months and years is crucial. We stand at a crux. Recents events have shown…

The Cove turns the Empire State Red
The Empire State is a truly magnificent and unique canvas, one that utilizes light and color to convey a narrative. The tradition of illuminating this Art Deco edifice has been an integral part of New York’s skyline since 1964. The building has changed floodlight hues to hallmark holidays, mourn the passing of esteemed personalities, salute home teams, and celebrate or observe other noteworthy occasions, people and events, today this revered Big Apple marker cast a red spotlight on a truly poignant and pertinent film, The Cove. The Cove, a 2009 Academy Award winning documentary directed by Louie Psihoyos features the concentrated efforts of Ric O’Barry to save dolphins from captivity…

Cetus Cause by Asher Jay
Big Baleen Plea: Weigh our value against our worth Are we worth more dead than alive? You have just begun to uncover our story We deserve a chance, so help us survive We are the behemoths of the big blue, We grow up to 100 feet long We tip the scales over 200 tonnes And our lung capacity is curiously strong. Our size distinguishes us, Our adult heart is the size of a mini car We communicate in low frequencies Our whale song can travel 1000 miles far! We swim beyond your visual scope Into areas that you cannot reach We are not like other baleen whales, We come up…

Meandering the Limit with Asher Jay
What is the limit? Watching my five year old niece play with my parents’ puppy this seems to be the question on her mind. ‘How many times can I poke him with this stick before he growls at me, or before someone sees and tells me off; what is the extent to which I can pursue my goals?’ As we grow older, the questions return; how far can I run; how high can I climb in this tree; how long can I wait before I go down to dinner…how much money can I make…how long can I live? This question seems lodged so frequently at the back of our brains,…

Artist Asher Jay Highlights how to Deconstruct Art for a Neo-Reality
We describe ourselves as humans, partly by the ways in which we attempt to deconstruct this ethereal term ‘art’. We have developed a perception that if we are able to see through a painting, a stylistic photograph, a film, fiction, into what can be garnered from it – or at least appear to be able to do so because we can argue our reasoning stubbornly enough – then we have somehow demonstrated that we have some ‘higher’ capability, a capacity that other species lack. Yet how many of us can truly see through the looking glass? Is it even possible to define what art is? Is it, in it’s purest…
