    J. Harry Edmiston …”Abstract Details in Colour”

Your upcoming exhibition entitled – “Abstract Details in Colour”, at the Alpha Gallery in Cork Street, London is about to begin. What is your inspiration behind it? Well as a solo show, I guess the idea has been focus a lot on the process.  The way the images are produced plays an important part in creating what is a fairly technical body of work.  I think the ‘inspiration’ behind the show has been to create an aesthetically beautiful body of work with an end goal of creating abstract pieces that one would want to have hanging on a wall at home.  Of course, taste is always entirely subjective. Which picture…

Call the Bluff, Know your Tell: Presidential Elections 2012 by Asher Jay

It’s odd sometimes who chooses to run As a presidential candidate, just for fun With no compassion, logic or common sense A grasp of past, future or present tense Hoping to secure swing vote oscillations Using dated slogans, false accusations Fluffy promises & fist pumps to endorse lies Ignorance promotes 1% biased money ties Women’s rights set back to days of yore Career choice between witch and whore Romney you know not what is right You don’t have collective welfare in sight To you climate change is a fat myth FEMA was about to receive the scythe You have left the American people with no choice All your campaign statements,…

Adelaide Damoah in Conversation with BP Portrait Award Finalist Toby Mulligan

Born in 1969,Toby Mulligan is a a rising star on the British art scene it seems. A self taught artist, Mulligan was  a 2012  finalist for the BP Portrait award and subsequently had his work exhibited at the prestigious National Portrait Gallery in London. Mulligan is unusual in that he not only taught himself how to draw and paint with both hands simultaneously, he also taught himself how to build houses and landscape gardens which he did on a professional basis for a number of years to supplement his practice and to look after his family. A full time artist now, Mulligans career has taken on a new direction following…

    Angela Dalinger

Tennis Angela Dalinger’s paintings have a whimsical lightness to them. They tread the terrain of naïve art while simultaneously displaying a solid sense of composition and form. In another interview of hers online, aws well as in our correspondence back and forth, she has emphasized her obsessive approach to painting— her routine is to paint daily from sunup to sundown. This behavior relates to other artists considered of the “naïve” or “outsider” camps, as does her struggle with depression. No matter her inner battles though, Dalinger’s works have a folksy feeling that is at once warm and inviting. Playful pieces like Tennis display this feeling best. In other works like…

TENDER MOUNTAIN by Kris Tate & Kristy Lynn

Kris Tate creates vibrant, psychedelic, geometric illustrations based on subject matter ranging from indie culture figures to forest animals. Kristy Lynn creates luscious paintings and delicate drawings inspired by nature and dreams. The two artists connected via the artist site Society6, and after becoming friends and supporters of one another’s work, Tate asked Lynn if she would like to collaborate on a piece, to which the answer was naturally, yes. Unsurprisingly, the artists decided to make a piece based on a wild creature from nature. The only question was: what member of the animal kingdom? After much discussion they decided on a wolf motif, and worked together to join their…

Beyond By Araxie Kutchukian with Mark M. Whelan

Araxie’s body of work questions the boundaries of reality, exploring notions of space, the surreal and the potential of the found image, evoking a sense of disquiet and nostalgia. After studying painting at Wimbledon College of Art, Araxie’s first commission took her to Armenia. Inspired by her experience as the Costume and Set Designer of ‘Sayat Nova’ opera in Yerevan, her work has been influenced by the functions of the stage and the contrived environment that it creates, as well as the visual signature of Eastern European theatrical folk characters and traditional costumes. Within her work, contemporary interiors contrast with the rich and dramatic Armenian landscape of her cultural heritage.…

Adelaide Damoah in Conversation with Adebanji Alade

I was introduced to the the man himself one day in 2009 during an artist meeting.  While six artists sat around a table in MacDonald’s, discussing a possible group show, Adebanji Alade shocked us all with a remarkable sketch of one of the artists which he completed while we  talked. From that day forward, I have paid close attention to his career and art and have a great respect for his talent and work ethic and his passion for drawing has influenced me in a number of ways. Born in 1972, Adebanji Alade says that his interest in the arts first started at the tender age of six when he…

    Andrea Peterson with Kirsty Lynn

The Good in Everything | 48 x 60 inches | oil on canvas Andrea Peterson’s paintings reveal a world of her own creation… I have had the pleasure of seeing Andrea’s work progress over the course of our long friendship, beginning with our time at East Carolina University’s School of Art in North Carolina. Since then we have each moved around the country, often living in the same cities at the same time, and her influences and mine have overlapped at times, as with the bustling energy of New York, or the vast landscape and magical energy of Arizona. Andrea’s work has a foundation in her highly unique approach to…
