J. Harry Edmiston …”Abstract Details in Colour”
Your upcoming exhibition entitled – “Abstract Details in Colour”, at the Alpha Gallery in Cork Street, London is about to begin. What is your inspiration behind it? Well as a solo show, I guess the idea has been focus a lot on the process. The way the images are produced plays an important part in creating what is a fairly technical body of work. I think the ‘inspiration’ behind the show has been to create an aesthetically beautiful body of work with an end goal of creating abstract pieces that one would want to have hanging on a wall at home. Of course, taste is always entirely subjective. Which picture…

Studio Physics – A Photographic Exploration Into the Nature of Time Light Space and Gravity By John Chervinsky
I am fascinated by the concept of time. I can measure it, account for it in an experiment in the lab, and live my life in it, but I still don’t know what it is, exactly. The idea behind this, my latest project, is to extend the image capture interval from the standard click of the shutter to a period lasting for weeks. I shoot a straight still life and crop the resultant image. I then email a jpeg of the cropped section to a painting factory in China and have them make it into a painting. Meanwhile, my studio setup sits there, but change to it is occurring, the…

Blindate by Mariana Zamarbide
Blind Date is an action, in which I propose myself an unnecessary (anduncomfortable) objective to encounter the danger and the unknown. It culminates with an anti-epic feat: to cross the river Besos ofBarcelona (which is slightly contaminated) dressed with a flotation suitmade out of empty water bottles. Previously I established a series of absurd requirements, which I had tocomplete:– the crossing-over had to take place in winter.– I had to dive under water to obtain photographs of the river’s ground. Once I had decided my goals it began a process of mental and physicalpreparationduring which I tried to estimate the dangers I would be exposed to.The imperative of wanting to foresee…

‘Europe’ by Christof Plümacher
“I do like structure in my imagery, it is a little obsession in most of the work. I do like a certain cleanlyness as well – that is also why I have a hang for fog and snow – two factors that naturally remove distractions in a picture. The series “Europe” began with the chapter “…so british” and developed from there.” “I looked at the lawn bowling field for several days without camera – and then decided to shoot it in a way that reduces the elements in the pic to the players and the playing ground (in lieu of snow and fog , see above)– no or as little…
